Tynemouth Sailing starts with training & racing on Sundays about Easter each year: It’s getting lighter & warmer by then & a few hours in the outdoors becomes nicer. Then we add Wednesday night racing (6pm for 7pm race start). On Sunday mornings we are typically on the water late morning for an hour or so with some adult training for those who have done rya1/2 (either this season or prior) , then theres time for a bite before racing in the afternoon.
Right in the middle of the season we have about ten Friday nights for juniors starting at 4pm. This get over subscribed, so you’ll need to get your name down early
We race. Oh yes ! its what we do at Tynemouth Sailing: here is the 2020 program to give you an idea of what racing & cruising we do.
So – do you drive on the right or the left ? Its important to know the rules – you’ll pick them up slowly – or see here for the earlier (2009-12) set of ISAF racing rules of sailing or here for the latest set. There is a helpful chart here which shows rules pictorially here
These will appear on our results page. The 2019 race results are on this page
Of course, there are also prizes – see Tynemouth Sailing Club Trophys. Come and get one if you’re big enough !
One important note: Its a requirement of sailing at the club that you have insurance for your boat. If you need help with that, just ask one of the committee. Noble Marine is worth a look – that’s not a recommendation, just a comment that nearly everyone uses them. As a rough idea, its ~ £70 a year for a laser
