Handheld Radios

Some of our handheld radios have a lock feature. If you find you can’t change the channel, e.g. from 80 (Royal Quays) to 37A (Race Officer), then in all likelihood the radio is locked. Hold down the button with the key symbol above it (bottom right of the key pad) for a couple of seconds to unlock the radio.

Some of our handheld radios can be used in the USA. If the radio is accidentally set for use across the atlantic then you won’t hear Royal Quays reply to any transmissions you make, though they can hear you. You can confirm that is the case as the channel will be shown as 80A and a very small letter U will be displayed on the lower left of the screen. Hold down the ‘CH’ key for a few seconds and the channel will show 80 and the very small letter U will change to a very small letter I.
