Lasers at Cragside

What an interesting day I’ve had – helping Wolfgang install 3 modified lasers onto the top lake as part of Cragside’s 150th birthday celebrations. The photos reproduced on the sails are from Armstrongs work on electric discharge patterns. There is a plan to get a few people from the club up-to Cragside 31st August for a sail as well. Anyone interested please talk to Wolfgang who has the details.

Anyone up for opening a book on how often they need attention during the 6 months planned for them to stay there?

Photos from Wednesday Night Racing

Lot of boats out tonight for joint TSC & SSSC racing – including a biggun’ that got in the way of the racing – how rude! So, here are your photos, for a night when the start was completely becalmed – then he wind picked up. Sunshine, clouds… 4 seasons in one evening…

TSC Regatta on July 20,21st

We need a number of people who won’t be racing to assist with the event, so please let us  know if you are willing to help. Ashore we need help with admin and galley, and afloat someone to assist with mark laying (training will be given), Race Officers assistants, and possibly rescue. If you can help with any of these please advise Ian Ainsworth or any member of Sailing Committee

Enterprise Wanted/Crews/Wednesday starts

1. We have new member seeking an Enterprise. Contact Mike or Ian if you have a decent one you are thinking of selling.
2. I have a couple of names of people wishing to crew, please let me know if you want details.
3. Wednesday turnouts have not been sufficient to justify a separate start, so Ents may get put in with the Slow Handicap fleet. Watch the flags!

Race Officer Training

To be successful running races, you need people that know what they are doing. On a glorious Saturday in late April, a small group from Tynemouth Sailing Club set out from Royal Quays to find out how it’s done. Flags, buoys, anchors,  wind, timing, results…..all covered in detail by Mike.

1st Friday for Cadets & Juniors

Friday night junior and cadets at Tynemouth Sailing Club
Friday night junior and cadets at Tynemouth Sailing Club

Great session: all got afloat, all sailed a course and all got back in.
I heard the water was cold out there, well done Caroline and Leon for testing it for us. Great fun.
Thanks must go to Helen from the RYA who was a very welcome  addition to our team, and to all the parents who dragged boats up the beach; we couldn’t do it without you.
Looking forward to next week…..Sarah P

Friday Night Sailing Starts 26th April.

This year we want to start Friday Nights earlier so that we don’t have boats launching at 7.15!

The Juniors and Cadets are assembling at 5.30 with a target time on the water of 6.00. The Friday night team – Sarah, George & Sarah  –  are looking forward to starting tomorrow, and will see you all some time before 5:30 (remember we  are at the rowing club across the way – see the map below), lets hope the wind plays ball for our first session on the water.
