March 2026
The new season is nearly here ⛵
It’s just three weeks until sailing returns to the Tyne Estuary, with the Early Summer Sunday Series starting on 29 March 2026. After a winter season at Ladyburn Lake, preparations are now underway to get everything ready at Priors Haven.
Season Opening Party – Friday 13 March
We’re really looking forward to welcoming members, partners and family to the season opening party and prize giving at the club.
Demand for tickets has been high, and it will be great to see so many people together for the first social of the season:
- Doors open: 7pm
- Food served: 7.30pm
- Live band after the prize giving
- Smart casual dress code – looking forward to seeing everyone.
Beach Clear-Up – Saturday 21 March
Winter storms have taken their toll on the beach at Priors Haven.
If you can spare some time, please come along to help with the beach clear-up on Saturday 21 March. Help is needed throughout the day, so even an hour or two makes a difference. The more people who lend a hand, the quicker we’ll be ready for sailing again.
Have you volunteered for safety boat, committee boat or race officer duties?
As the sailing season begins, please remember to sign up for committee boat and safety boat duties if you haven’t already. Volunteering early makes it much easier to plan racing, sailing and training for everyone.
For 2026 we’ll be sharing race officer duties with South Shields Sailing Club on Sunday afternoons as well as Wednesday evenings. It’s great to see that more than half the available slots have already been filled.
If you haven’t yet submitted your volunteer dates, please take a moment to sign up — you can read more here.
Safeguarding Officer Update
The committee is pleased to announce that Catherine Hide will take over as the club’s Safeguarding Officer from Sunday 29 March 2026.
Catherine takes over from Sarah Batchelor, who was formally thanked for her time and commitment in the role.
Youth Sailing Returns After Easter
Youth training will start again after Easter.
The club is keen to hear from members with children in Year 5 or above who may be interested in learning to sail but didn’t take part last year.
New volunteers who would like to help on or off the water are always welcome. We’re also happy to receive any unwanted children’s sailing kit that you’d like to donate.
A question for members….
As the Winter and Frostbite series at Ladyburn Lake comes to an end later this month, we’ll be sending out a short survey to TSC members.
We’d like to hear your thoughts on winter sailing and what changes we might consider to improve the experience for more sailors. Please keep an eye out for the survey when it’s circulated.
